Minnesota!

How do you think he'd do as an only chicken? I've got guineas and peafowl. I want chickens but haven't started that journey yet.

He would do great, He is use to living with turkeys and guineas, Right now he is living in a prison and not liking it at all.

If he only has guineas to live with you could end up with guinea chicken hybrids. He has a "strong" sex drive.

Have you got a hen I could buy? Stupid question - can they eat game bird feed same as the guineas and peacocks or do they need less protein?

Not always true. I have 2 labs. They are trained to hunt. They are fantastic hunting dogs. The older one has been through all the doggy schools, the younger I trained myself. They do not chase the chickens, they will hunt a grouse, or pheasant and retrieve a duck, but will not chase a chicken. Any dog can be trained to know what is "off limits". Consistency is all that is required. My dogs are my chickens protectors from predators. When we are outside with them we "scold" them if they even sniff a domestic bird. What I worry about more than the dogs is the chickens becoming complacent towards four legged critters because of them being with the dogs. NOW That does not mean you leave the dog without supervision for 15 hours alone with the chickens, but we do an hour or two with no worries. Besides a smart dog knows if the chickens are dead, they cannot drop those tasty treats the dogs like to eat (and I do not mean eggs). As you can see the dog is not bothered or real excited about the birds. The following picture is how I attempted to stop poop munching. It failed but would stop a dog from biting a chicken, but they could still chase them. The reason it failed to stop the poop eating was because the dog is so smart. She figured out if you push the muzzle hard into the poop, it will squish through the muzzle and you can lick it off the inside of the muzzle.... sort of pureed poop. yummy!
I've asked her before thought I ALWAYS keep this dog tied up because it's chased my birds before.

My grandpa is getting a Chihuahua today. I hope its not going to kill the chickens or its going to have to wear the shock collar.

I found a chick thief!!!! It was a little rat thing and it carried away a chick!!!! My brother is on the hunt trying to find it. This is where more of my chicks have gone. I am now down to 12 out of 40 some!

Ralphie, I think the reference was to the rooster Ed.
OMG, yes, Ed the rooster! lol (better not let my husband see this)
