Minnesota!

I actually like the coyotes.  Its a good  night when I hear them howl but I like hearing the wolves better.  ITs been quiet as far as the wolves because dnr had trappers come after they took out a few calves on a nearby farm.  They got 9 wolves before they finished.

I supposed could be a coyote that took the chicken too, but...guessing fox.

Coyotes and wolves and foxes have to eat too.  But if I had cattle, I'ld be sweating it since it is hard to keep the safe.

I'm with you on that!

OK, looking for some advice from those of you who have wintered your flocks. I made the mistake of not having ventilation in the coop we built last fall/winter. I have added some now but I do not know if it is enough. I was also contemplating getting a fan to put in the coop. At night, it is so hot when they go to bed. I was thinking of getting one and installing it up in the peak of the ceiling and make sure it is adjustable. So I can point it down for cooling off the hens and then could I use it in the winter to move the air out the vent? So here are pictures. Ask me questions if you need to know more about the setup. Looking to see if you think I should add more vents or can I use what I have and add a fan or is what I have enough. Thank you

Don't mind the junk!! :)

Same vent just closer picture.

Back vent on opposite end.

Closer up of one in back.

The one in back is about 6 inches bigger than the one in the front. And one is lower the other higher. Vents are north and south facing. Windows on east and west sides.

Back,,,

read it all. promptly forgot it all.. Short memory.

Mom did ok on birds.

Wild bird feeders are empty... I could be attack by the mad chickadee again..

Fishing was not great, but I spent most me time with grandkids.

Skunks stink..

Too tired to think of anything else.

4 pages on a work day and one on a Sunday?? Wow.
Welcome back, Ralphie. Hope you had a great weekend.
Had your brown sugar brine chicken tonight. Very good and. Tender and juicy!

I am going to Madeline on Thursday for a long weekend. Just getting the bikes ready tonight. So hot in the garage that I can't seem to remember what I need to do next or where I put something down. Like being senile. So I am going to try to do some of it tomorrow. It becomes so frustrating.

Keep the predators away all and have a great night.

So I took a brave move tonight and finally let one of my coops out to free range. They had such a blast and covered a huge portion of the main yard. They even found my comfrey patch (anyone else grow comfrey for your chickens?) and windfall apples (Tiny green ones). They even watched me cutting firewood for a while. I think this will become a nightly activity from now on since they have done so well!

Thanks. I did not design or build it. I just get to clean it.

Its fun seeing other people coops. Maybe we should do something like a virtual 'Parade of Homes' but of our chickens coops? I love seeing other peoples set ups. it gives me ideas for my own projects :)

You could ad some louver style vents high up along the sides. you'll want ventilation in there in the winter, but cracking those windows right next to that roost could be too drafty right next to the birds.
