Minnesota!

I planted a row of head lettuce, I got two plants that went right to seed. The only tape I planted that semi-work was carrots.

My fingers are so big and clumsy it is hard to plant small seeds, I thought seed tapes would be the answer, I think not. My stuff might have faired better had I not had to go to Florida and had we had a warmer spring.

Ralphie do you have a good pickle recipe? That is another one I am going to try when the cucs are in. I thought pickles were pressure cooked. (again, shows how little I know about canning) I have been reading the recipes on Allrecipes.com but there are so many with mixed reviews. Mostly I want a crisp, whole pickle with a garlic flavor. Love the garlicky pickles.

I am a kind of throw it together cook. I look at the recipes to get an idea then just throw stuff in. I did not keep any recipes. The dills were easy. I made one sweet pickle that I could not give away. My bread and butter pickles got a C. I just threw a garlic clove or two in each jar when I canned for the garlic taste. Mine were all pretty crisp. BUT the ones I keep in a fridge were far better I thought. Same recipe just keep them cold.

Ralphie, I second everything Rhetts said...

My limited experience I have had with a pressure cooker is canned venison. I think it turned out fine. Doesnt look appetizing in the jar but once you try it it seems fine

I forgot to mention I wanted some "hot" dills and threw a couple home grown jalapenos in the jars for that.. BAD decision they were inedible hot.

I just used hot water baths on my jars. as I said I am skeered of pressure cookers!

I did lettuce on a seed tape and it worked like a charm.  I also did carrot seed tape.  That did not work.  3 carrots out of the whole thing.  My spinach has wilted/died and I was going to pull it and plant more.  Can the chickens have the old spinach or should I give it to the pigs?
I tried carrot tape this year for the first time and had zero come up! I assumed it was the bad soil or too wet but maybe it was just the tape
