Minnesota!

OK Ralphie- that beet recipe calls for 12 pounds of beets. i have a measly 2.9 pounds. How do I reduce all the ingredients to make to what I have?

Wild Child I have no idea how to price roosters. I can't give them away, literally!!

Klop-this is my second year gardening so I have no idea what I am doing. I love the idea of seed tape for those veggies with such tiny seeds. I wonder if it depends on the variety of seed they have in the tape not working in our neck of the woods.

Ralph I could have told u adding hot peppers to something you're canning was a bad idea... We have experienced the pain and long burning from it!!

My aunt came and picked up all my Orps and the little SLW pullet to start her flock!! I love her coop! It is so cool and made out of nearly 100 percent scraps wood! Now I need her to send pics.

Is it fair to say if I wanted to "spice up" my breeds I should order one of them fancy mixed breed bundles hatcheries offer? And if I were to do it it wouldnt be until next spring. I would house the two groups in seperate coops. I already have Borpingtons, BR, and RiR.

Finally caught up again after 4 days away with DH at the luxury all inclusive resort in Robinsdale, North Memorial Inn & Suites.

I don't use a seed tape for the small seeds. I mist a piece of TP & drop them on, fold over then out to the garden. Works for me, but I keep the garden pretty compact. Old seeds are used as edible mulch.

There are several websites that convert recipes or a good book is Small Batch Canning. I have it on my Kindle.

Most of our city friends think I'm a redneck, ( I can over load a pick up with the best of them) but they really don't know what one is. I admit to thinking about building a pallet pool. And the slip & slid is a couple layers of 6mm poly (& 25 ft long) with a sprinkler. There are several none functioning cars, snow plows & other junk by the shop, but that is DS. But as for the rest of it, I want the tractor (yes, GREEN), & mowers to all work, & extension cords don't qualify as electrical wiring. My only qualification is I own the keys to a couple of liquor stores.

My Mama Summer has been a great mother. All 7 chicks are growing so fast (4 wks). They are so much more apart of the flock. I Have a couple that look like they will have tuffs & puffs. The 1 feather footed already is getting comb & waddles. Any Idea when Mama will start laying again?

I found 1 of the Icelandics hunkered down in the hay bin to lay then found 2 more eggs in there. They are so off with the heat. I hope that they aren't laying somewhere else that I haven't found.

Are you adding birds just for looks or for a purpose like eggs but you want a variety of birds in your flock? I really like the heavy breed or dual purpose birds that lay well and serve the stew pot when they are done. There are so many pretty breeds of chickens out there!!

@Rhetts My math may be off but it looks to me like you have 1/4 beets of what is called for. I would venture a guess to divide everything by 4.

I may be brain dead with the 3 full days off mowing, putting a new section of roof on my parents house, and the heat. It has been a bad week.

The only bright spot is the lil reds made it outside for the first time. Only minor trouble with the adults.
