Minnesota!

Our garden is rocking. It's planted where the cows used to hang out. My tomato plants are in a raised bed.

I have no social life but will harvest great veggies.

*sigh*

My last house was built where a cattle yard was many years ago. My garden there grew tomato plants over my head and the harvests were enormous! I kept the soil well amended with organic material each year. I hope to achieve the same in my new garden in time.

We have friends with horses so should be able to get some manure for fertilizer plus the more I read about cover crops the more I am liking my idea. I may even try to get a cover crop on the garden side this fall yet

Seems like that with my kitchen remodel. At least you get to live in one of my favorite areas. I ride through there sometimes. I really like it close to the river. Not this year. I didn't even go to wings and wheels.

My chickens seem to have no interest in thistle seeds/fluff so I have been trying to gather and burn anything that makes a pod.

To clarify, the area where I have my garden (if 1/8 acre still qualifies as a garden) was covered in head high weeds when we moved in. I chopped them and plowed this spring. It's been an uphill battle since day 1
Sounds like my garden. I know you ain't kidding about the weeds. They are over my head here. We moved here last year and have been attempting to claim small pieces of yard but it it nearly impossible.
Last year was our first year with a garden and it sucked big time. I wintered the geese and ducks in it, rototilled like 3 or 4 times this spring. The weeds are horrible. However the veggies are growing better this year. AND I had no idea about this tool that some of my sister in laws use. AMAZING!! I had been weeding my garden by hand (like sitting on the ground pulling weeds) and had thrown in the towel for the year because the weeds were too much for me. The sisters showed up and in a few hours I had my garden back. I told them why didn't you tell me about this tool. They thought I was trying the no weeding method of gardening. So I have a new found energy to continue gardening. It is so exciting!! Good luck Klop!

Looks pretty fancy! I've seen those on wheel hoes before but not on a handle.

I learned a trick this summer to put down newspaper (not the shiny kind) several layers thick around the plants them mulch over that. It works really well so far. I have always mulched with grass clippings but weeds in my new garden scoff at the clippings and grow right through

I plan to save my newspapers through the winter and then paper around all my tomatoes and peppers and in the rows next year
