You seem to think raising chickens is fun or a hobby and not serious work,. If you cannot call them by their proper names. do not mention the name at all.

(there did I get the mood set correctly? and in case you cannot tell there is a heavy dose of sarcasm included here)


Calling yourself a chickens great aunt is beyond pale!!!


Now I have to leave, I have a new baby to take care of... BTW my DW gave the little guy a walk about the house........I am thinking of setting a place for it at the table.

I've been MIA so is the little guy the turkey you've been speaking of or another critter? Nosey minds want to know....

Well I learned something today.

Now can I drink?

Serious question -- cleaning the sand out of the 5 Amigos holding pen and noticed something moving.... well looks like some food must have gotten wet and missed getting scooped out. Found some worms that I figured were maggots. I've given these guys mealworms but wasn't sure about letting them have the maggots. So I scraped all of that grahdoo out of the pen.

Are maggots okay for them to eat?

First off, I am afraid to tell you about birds and maggots, that would mean you learned two things in one day! I have a strict rule against learning more than one thing a day. If you learn one thing, you must stop all other activity relax and have a cocktail. Or in my case a Mikes Lemonade.....



I let my birds eat all the maggots, grubs and anything else they want. It saves me having to buy them feed.. Now you are in brain overload from learning two things! Immediately stop all activity, sit down, get your legs up and crack a Mikes.

Mistahblue, My guineas are not long for the world. I am going on a Guinea hunting trip soon!

I had two killed on the road today, I only had 4 left, I have the 2 males left, they are chasing each other and fighting like crazy. I do not want them to infect my young ones with their craziness. I am think Guineas for Sunday dinner!


The one make went and started a fight with the "cluck" that has taken over raising them. I do not want her hurt, or the babies to see their birth parents! I am trying to decide whether to "catch" them with the .22, .17 or a 12 ga. Any suggestions?



The heat is killing me! I cannot even compose a proper sentence in this heat!

Yes, It is the little turkey, that is trying to worm his way into our immediate family.

BTW he was very happy to sleep between my DW and I this morning...

Now he is in the hatcher demanding we let him out. He is kind of pushy and a little spoiled for 2 days old.

I Was think 17 because the speed of the projectile would knock them silly a second if I missed and whizzed by their heads..Other wise I thought I would treat them like a partridge and bird shot hopefully to the head...

I need to have another mikes and think more about this....

And the planning gets better too.. Maybe with this heat I will wait until tomorrow. I might have to sleep on this plan.
