I was looking at your pictures again. They are great. That water falls would have been so tempting to just sit in and get drench with the heat this weekend.

The one picture of the dog sleeping is a keeper!

When we got our white lab, (my old dog) We decided to actually have a trained dog for a change instead of a dog that just picked up what we told it and tried to teach it. We went to petsmart and enrolled in their dog classes. When we would start the evening we were suppose to socialize our dogs and make them comfy being there. We would do that, then calm them down to learn.

Reagan came over to my lap and laid on it ( I was sitting on the floor so she was more on my legs than lap. I started rubbing her belly, She will do anything for a belly rub. She rolled over like your dog is, and almost fell asleep as I rubbed her belly with all 4 feet in the air. The "instructor", a young gal of about 18, got mad at me and really chewed me out because "Dogs don't like to lay on their backs"....

It is a phrase my wife and I use all the time now, because our dogs seem to love laying on their backs. No matter how many times we tell the dogs " Dogs don't like laying on their backs" they still do..

Well, I have to actually get some work done in this nicer weather. I need to run to Elk River and get 10 more bags of grower for my CX's. They are going through so much everyday, even with my with holding all they want. They are so healthy and fun right now. If I have them free ranging and I walk any wheres towards my shed near them they all come running and flying! One of them must have flown 40 ft about 3 ft up it was so funny! I know most of you do not think very highly of CX's, but dang I love them. They are the sweetest birds. Too bad it is so hard to keep them alive for any length of time.

I am going to keep 3 hens and 2 roosters over winter, continuing to limit their feed and try and get eggs for hatching next spring.

I am going to try and video the birds being released this morning too, so I can post a picture of Bert Jr and Bertha being released, (my toads) they are so funny when they run.
Heck, I better tell all three of our dogs that dogs aren't supposed to lay on their backs! In fact, I believe it is their favorite position when they sleep, in or out of a kennel! I think someone needs to correct that trainer who hasn't quite found her clue on what dog behavior really is about.

My meatballs are hitting their stride now at one month old. One more to go. I will have to split them up before too long as I don't think 29 are going to fit in the pen they are in now. I think in 2 weeks they will need to be sorted, big ones and smaller ones and push a little more feed to the smalls to get them to catch up a little. I figured I will probably cut up 16 and just bag the others whole. Our 17-year old has taken to cooking and wants 'parts' to use instead of whole birds all the time. I agree. First though, he is going through a month-long training course on how to clean the kitchen. When he cooks, you would think an army of Gremlins took over the place. The mess aside, he has cooked up some very yummy food. The kid doesn't quite get that we don't have to make gourmet food every night though. He will have a rude awakening the day he HAS to buy his own groceries.

We are getting half a hog from some 4-Hers I know. I am looking forward to having pork in the freezer again. It has been a while since we bought any that way. I have to clean the freezer before the end of next week though!

I hate to agree with 17 year olds, BUT as I tell my wife all the time....Cleaning the kitchen is woman's work!....

I agree with that, If our continent was say 200 miles narrower on each end, it could be a WAY better place to live and we could save gas money driving coast to coast...

Because I can't give ovations any more I will tell you this is exactly what DH and I say. LOL. Too funny.

Minnie...I hope you're training that boy "right".

I did an experiment one time. It was right after Easter and I had picked up the 29th foil wrapper for chocolate eggs off the living room carpet. I was bending over to pick up the 30th when I said to myself, "Nah...." I left my house to my husband and 9 or 10 year old twins (however old they were--old enough to lift their butts and walk to the garbage can) for 1 week. I didn't pick up candy wrappers or little green Easter basket plastic grasses. I didn't sweep. I didn't do the dishes. I didn't vacuum. The place turned into a a sess-pool. My husband walked in the door and looked around sort of in a mystified way at about day 5 or 6 and says, "Ummmm. Should I ask you if you'll iron a shirt for me for tomorrow?"
Then we all had a talking.
Sad thing is I think I'm back to square one.

Do not count on it.. In my personal experience the "granola crowd" besides eating funny are extremely cheap..
Not really true. I find that people who appreciate straight from the farm are the ones who will pay higher prices without complaint. It is the cheapos who tell me they can get theirs for 99 cents at Kwik Trip that are the real jerks about price.

We split up all of our CX this year and it has been great so far. We made packages of breast, leg quarters, wings, and giblets. Not only has it been nice for cooking, but it fits in the freezer much nicer too. I'm looking forward to breaking out a package of wings once football season comes into full swing
Edit: I should also mention this allowed us to vacuum seal it all which should mean no freezer burn!

Yes, it is a treat when he hits the mark. He has some more development of his palette to go. He likes to make everything with an Asian twist and super hot. I love heat and Asian flavors, but not all the time. Our DD doesn't like heat at all, so I have to keep reminding him, when you make it for everyone in the house, you have to consider that not everyone likes their head to burn off when they eat. He is doing very well though. I am very proud of him!
