Let them free range the Yard today... wont happen again for atleast couple more wks.. I chased 3 chickens around my neighbors UNfenced yard.. they are still small enough to get through the chainlink fence... i was trying to herd them with a long board. if i could have got close enough i would have clunked them in their heads with it... but eventually the went back through the fence on my side and my dog chased them in their chicken run... Pomerania's make good chicken herders...LOL

Anyways my ButterScotch is always the bravest, she was the 1st one out of the run...

Wish I could have watched that.

Mother Earth Magazine calls those who raise their own food "Homesteaders" a là Laura Ingalls.

Our family gets a great joy out of eating our own food. My goal is to be self sufficient, food wise.

Interesting note: I'm banned from donating blood to the Red Cross because I lived in Europe. I may transmit Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, aka,Mad Cow Disease.

I have a pretty good spread of egg colors right now. I think I'm gonna send my roo to freezer camp later this fall and get a new one in the spring and let my silkie hatch another brood. 

You could always stop by and claim your Jersey Giant, make it a rooster, and you're set for next year.
