In 7th grade my boys had to learn to do laundry for their home ec class (now called Family Consumer Science). I have made them do laundry ever since, although the one at home still will forget to put the soap in sometimes and stuffs it so full it won't clean the clothes properly. When I was growing up there was no magic elf at my house. If I wanted clean clothes I had better do my laundry myself! Same with cooking, cleaning up my room/bathroom and so on. I was blown away in college when my room mate had no idea how to work a washer. He took his laundry home every weekend to his mom.
My oldest lives in an apartment in Roch. The first batch of roommates drove him nuts because they didn't clean, a guy and a girl. He was so mad one day he called me to rant because he spent 2 hours cleaning their one shared bathroom. The fact that he was so irate made me proud of him. My son at home is a pig here, but at work he is meticulous, ambitious, over the top willing to please. WHAT is that all about???
Daughter has a teenager brain right now. I just discovered she has been shoving trash like candy wrappers and such in the drawers of the coffee table. She is in big doo doo.
