Minnesota!

My new Dark Cornish from @Minniechickmama have been sleeping in a nest box all huddled up at night and pooping all over in it! If they don't start using the new low roost I built for them I will have to start blocking the best boxes at night. Little turds!

I so understand this!

The guineas have decided they each need their own individual nest box at night. They refuse to leave them.

Minnesota! thread is back at #9 and the Pekin Ducks are at #10. Phew. Good thing there was coffee talk going on to catch us up.

I have a little bantam silkie that sleeps in the nest box. Every morning I clean it out.

I so need to change up the roosts.

My MIL is in charge of distribution/circulation at the local paper here. At lunch I went over to their garage and took away a whole truck load of pallets, scrap wood, and old doors plus there is probably another truckload worth there. She is happy to get it out of their storage space without having to get a dumpster or something plus she knows that I will get really good use out of it on the farm. They also have a large 6' x 15' metal sign that she thinks she can get rid of too that looks like it would make a good prevailing wall of a coop/run :)

one door is going to become the poop board of a new roost layout coming to my corn crib coop this weekend.

I should run some chicken tractors with some broilers next summer.  You people have me wanting to do this now.  As if I don't already have stuff to do already.  :barnie ;)

What a gorgeous fall morning.  Nice and brisk with fog lifting off the pot holes and lakes.  It was a cool drive out there this morning. And the woods are on fire.  It was well after sunset last night putting chooks to bed...but it was like it was still light out there with the last bit of light from the sky reflecting off those golden leaves. Oh it was gorgeous.  The chickens are in heaven with the cooler air, bugs on leaves coming down, cooked squash tailings.  The only thing is the molt...but they seem to be doing okay.  The BLRW and the BA are are a little slow.  Roger's back is a mass of quills, and his tail is about gone.  But he's in good spirits nonetheless with two or three layers still putting out eggs.

Rhetts.  First picture looks like an adolescent wolf.  Second looks coyote.  I concur.  Bears hibernate in the winter so a hoop coop would be disrupted only by an agressive wolf...but I think you could stake it in and cattle pannels are pretty tough. Reinforced with hardware cloth they'd be pretty indestructible. Not probably worth the effort if done right. Thanks for sharing the pictures.  People get a nice idea what you're dealing with there.  What a PITA.

Still working on potty training the obnoxious yellow lab pup.  She insists on pooping downstairs in the basement.  She's so sneaky and quick too.  ugh. kennel kennel kennel kennel...... I'm sick of poop....

My puppies even though they were only six weeks old at the time started whining when they had to go to the bathroom because they wanted to go outside. Maybe you could take one and have teach your lab what to do *wink wink*. Rhetts, the pictures you have to me looks like the first one is an immature wolf and the second a coyote. Sometimes when we want a good look at a predator we take a roadkill dear and place it by a tree with a trail camera next to it. Works every time.

I'm thinking they dark enough the others are laying in them. I try to get it cleaned up right a way but now I leave for work before she lays, and I know they are eating the yolk out of it. how do I stop that

You need to isolate her with her own box until she gets it right. She will have your whole flock turned into egg eaters and you will have some real PITA issues to fix then.

my dogs prefer CX poop over regular chicken poo. Im not sure if it is a difference in the feed, or if it is because the CXs tend to smoosh it down a bit in the tractor. Tractor moving time is the pups favorite time of day when I have broilers.
