Minnesota!

After countless hours of reading I've decided to first dose them with Wazine and ten days later with Ivomectin.

Some posts mention not to dewormer until chickens are one year old. Most, all but four, are under a year. Finding the roundworm in poop makes me not want to wait any longer.

Many have talked about Safeguard but I like the idea of putting it in their water.

Butterscotch does look better.

Now that I've calmed down a bit, I wanted to say how glad i am that I had the nustock on hand. I wouldn't have been able to do much for Goldie without it. I live pretty far from anywhere that would have a product I could use. I know I could use an antibiotic ointment, but the nustock works better. It is hard to get some of the ointments to stick to wet flesh.

Nutstock It is a lot like a jar of natural peanut butter where the oil is on top and is runny, and the solid peanut butter part is thick and like a hard paste. So the runny part is good for pouring into a deep wound, or where the skin has been pulled up and separated from the flesh - basically you can pour it so it covers the parts you can't get to. And the thick paste part is good for patting on the big open gashes, and it sticks. WIth dog bites, you don't want to cover the wound with a bandage because you want to keep it open to air and to being able to easily see any developing infection.

Its a southern product (made in tennesee), and I have never seen it here in the north. after I mentioned it to my vet when she was treating my cat, she checked it out and told me later that it has become one of her favorite tools to use on dogs - for all kinds of skin conditions, hot spots, etc. I get it on the internet, and I'm on my third tube.

Anyway, it would make a great xmas present for your self (or for your flock). I would not be without it. Don't I sound like a commercial?

I will be out as soon as it is daylight to see if seaquist shows up, but I am really afraid she was eaten by the danged dog.

I don't know if I have shown y'all this little crafty set of ornaments I made a few years ago. But if you find you have too many eggs, this is a good one to try for any kind of decorating:

You make a little hole at each end and blow out the insides, rinse, dry and decorate with just about any kind of crafty things. We did it for a 4-H meeting project one time.
Those are beautiful. Really nice work.

We used to blow out the egg yolk all the time when we were kids for easter eggs. I was confused the first time I saw easter eggs hard boiled.

Hi All im just checking in. ive been pretty busy but havent been doing much with the chickens. feed, water and give them treats. Its so cute they will come right to the back door and all stare in, If the know that i see them they will peek at the glass and let me know they want treats so i usally throw couple handfuls of mealworms out. And when they see me carry out the icecream bucket they will run as fast as they can and follow me in the run to see what I have for them... And the Hen that was in my shower is doing fine other then her bald head she is acting perfect. hopefully she stays that way...
So glad she is doing better. Seems like an allergy. The way it starts and stops for what seems like nothing. If it was bacteria it would have come back. I would think anyway.

Got a call from a neighbor on the way home. says he has one of my chickens, that his dog "found" it in the road. Took forever to get home, ran to the coop. Saw the gate was open. Counted heads in the coop, came up two short. Missing is Seabright, the little white seagull looking hen. And Goldie. Went to the neighbors which is about 1/3 mile down the road. No way in hell that my chickens got that far, they don't even make it to my driveway when they freerange. Neighbor volunteers that his dog has been inside all day and blames some other dog.

Neighbor had Goldie in a box. Got Goldie home, she has major gashes and holes in her. I could get my pointer finger up to the knuckle in them. Mostly stopped bleeding. I packed the wounds with Nu-Stock, which is basically sulphur and tar oil. I've used it on a hen that had deep puncture wounds and a big gash from a hawk. She healed up just fine. I put Goldie in a kennel in the bathroom to keep her warm, quiet, and away from the cats.

I feel both sick that I left the gate open, and really angry that the neighbor lets his dog run.

I am thankful that he at least took the hen from the dog and put it in a box, and called me. He could have just let the dog finish the hen, or not called me. I don't know whether he really believes his dog just "found" my hen on the road, or whether he doesn't want to own up to his dog on my land. THis is the third time I've lost hens these past couple of months to a predator. Probably all of them to his danged dog.
I just hate people who don't think of others or even worse when they do think of others they just don't care!! Makes me want to give up on humanity. Asses.
So glad you got your girl back and I hope Seabright is found. At least he stopped his dog and got Goldie back to you even though he knew you wouldn't believe the baloney story. Look in areas free of snow. Good luck!
