The sprouts are looking good! How long are you going to grow them before you feed them out? Sprouts alone at that stage are supefoods. I am with Cluckies, maybe longer seedling trays and a heated mat would be better to get the going. Then again, oats are a cool season planted crop, so maybe not?

I decided that the amount of snow we got is enough. LOL I wouldn't mind if this blanket of snow was all we got and if it would stay until the end of the February, that would be totally cool with me. Of course, once the wind blows, all this light, fluffy snow is going to drift all over again. I am just glad we got the bigger snow thrower going for this year.

I have a big dog house made by a high school shop class. Heavier than heck. Has a small opening that you can't get your head and shoulders into, and it is so long you can't reach all the way inside to the back of it.

A feral cat has been hanging around the coop (water and mice, what more could it want?). So yesterday I stuffed hay into the dog house hoping it would encourage the cat.

Well, 2 minutes later one of the pullets I got in Nov came over, sashayed in and stayed. and stayed. She was laying in Nov but stopped about a month ago. 3 hours later, still in there messing with the hay. I thought, oh oh if she lays in there I won't be able to see the egg let alone get it.

went out to hand feed Goldie some treats, and there was an egg frozen to the snow in front of the dog house. I don't know if it was hers, or why it was outside the dog house, but who cares?

Also, I'm kind of excited. I think I am going to let Goldie out to join the flock on saturday. She is doing ok, starting to eat a bit more (ate almost a whole scrambled egg yesterday), and has enough feather growth that her wounds are covered.
I would let her join tomorrow but am heading to the cities in the afternoon. Sat I can be there to monitor how she does.

Maybe she layed it then kicked it out by accident while she was fussing in the hay?

I was hoping for a little big more root volume before I feed them, but I will probably feed the oldest bucket tomorrow. That will be 6 days i think. I hope the chooks like them!

ok, this is a FB pic of battery hens (hens from egg factories). This woman knits them tank tops because they are often poorly feathered when rescued - picking feathers because of close quarters in the factories. But... I am a little skeptical of that claim because it is hard to believe the breeds above came from an egg factory!
