Minnesota!

My second hatch is due tomorrow, so of course, they started hatching yesterday when I was moving them from the incubator to the hatcher. There are about 10 of them out already.

You can read where if your temp is higher than it needs to be, that will cause them to hatch early, and if it is lower they will take longer. Well, my temp is 100.5. If I turn it lower, I have problems. If I raise it, I have problems. So, I will take chicks hatching early over chicks not hatching at all or hatching with guts hanging out.

That looks similar to my old setup before I built my poop board. I loved watching them hop from rung to rung to get up and down. Chickens jumping just makes me giggle ;)

Edit: except mine was made of branches

I'm trying to figure out how to get a poop board under there.

Just make sure they are big enough. I would say my smallest branch is 2" across and they fill that one last. The bigger ones go first[/quote

Do you mean at a minimum 2 inch diameter?

Yes, diameter. Their favorite one is one that is oval shaped and 6" in diameter one way and 4" the other.

Awesome! Whats hatching? Is it Bucks and bantams?

Yeah I struggled with that too which is why I rebuilt totally.
I tried making the whole thing hinge from the top so I could swing up up to the roof and hook it and get behind it easier which helped but when I put a poop board under it was always too steep and the poo rolled off down to the floor anyways.

Congrats on the little ones!

Mine hatched two days early and my temp was around 100.5/101. I was like oh man, oh man, oh man.
