Minnesota!

yuck. coming home tonight I saw some feathers at the end of the driveway. Definitely a female quail. There were just a few, some blood, looks like something got her in the air. feeling pretty sick about it.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully the rest are safe and avoiding raptors!

I have 20 week old chicks. All were running around and eating and drinking and pooping. This afternoon I have one very lethargic chick. She is just laying down, breathing hard. I dipped her beak in water and she fussed half heartedly. The other chicks walk on her and she barely responds. No pasty butt. Good temp in the brooder. Any suggestions?
I would say your parting words. i have had a few CX chicks present like that and they never lasted longer than a day. it was that their legs were too weak to stand and that just dragged them down

oh no! that is a bummer! hopefully the rest are all hiding out safe!

thanks everyone.

maybe to balance the lost quail, this morning there was a grouse in the chicken run. she was very curious about the chickens, almost as if she was deciding whether they were her kind or not!

I'm going to sneak out on break this afternoon and get the peas planted earlier than I have ever done it, but heck, with this weather what do I have to lose besides a pack of seed?

We are moving our garden this year to a more open tree-free location.

Preparing the soil ... Lotsa work.
