Minnesota!

Perfect example of clear as mud lol. How weird there isn't one standard on a county, state and national level?

The state level 2017 Poultry Information Sheet states age and purity requirements in regards to exhibiting in breeding classes, but nothing of the sort is mentioned under showmanship.

STATE FAIR SHOWMANSHIP  Age Divisions: Intermediate = grades 6-8 & Senior = grades 9-10, Advanced = grades 11 & up  Exhibitors are judged on personal appearance, appearance of the bird, handling of the bird and attention to the judge during the poultry show and receive a callback card.  Exhibitors must bring one of their own birds for showmanship.  The Champions receive a plaque. The Reserve Champion Advanced, Senior and Intermediate (ALL) receive plaques

I'm going to call the extension office tomorrow to clarify this. I was told again today by others in my county that showmanship is not dependent on other entries. You can choose to participate in breed shows where SOP is judged, showmanship where participant knowledge is judged, or both. In showmanship neither breed nor age restrictions apply. One can have a three year old mixed breed and still place well. These are parents of kids who participated the last several years doing so. Maybe it's different even county to county?

I'll let you all know what I sort out either way.

Since they all are working toward State Fair eligibility, I don't see how it would be different county to county. However, Showmanship does not advance to State, just the classes based on the placing of the pen in the bird judging. I do know that Cloverbuds can take whatever bird they choose, but they are not being judged, it is just an experience. I have never seen nor heard that any 4-Her can enter a bird just for Showmanship, it is a judging class that is voluntary and has no sign up in advance. All members are encouraged to do Showmanship because if 90% or more of the entrants participate, then the county gets to add an extra State Fair trip to the lot. Also, Showmanship is run based on age groups, Beginner, Intermediate and Seniors. If some counties are running it differently, that is news to me. There are different rules concerning other species for age, but poultry is quite specific in regards to age. Now, if there are some counties who have a very low participation, perhaps they do have some county classes only, I have never heard of that being the case.

If you are looking at the requirements of other states, you will not have the correct information for Minnesota.

Here is the Identification information and State Fair info for Poultry:
