Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

It's sad but I don't think Miracle could make it if I didn't put him up away from the adults.

You sure are a good chicken owner. Bless you and your Miracle. I bet you two will have a bonding.

Guineas are usually good at about 12 weeks to go out and free range with the rest of the flock, but I have had a few (normal one) take up to 16 weeks to learn the ropes and not get their butts chased by the other birds.

So you vote "girl"??????

Yes, I think she is going to be one of the girls. Good luck with her. I think this qualifies for the "It's so ugly it's cute" category. Sorry, I want some guineas in a big way, but they have a very ugly face. IMHO, of course.

Well, you may think a Guinea Bird is ugly, but I have found out ONE thing about them:

They just LOVE being a Guinea Bird. They seem so very happy and carefree and wacky.

I have always loved this pic:

I really think that they just can not help themselves.

You really "hit the nail on the head" with your description of guineas.

They are truely ugly but so very cute and wacky. They do love being guineas. They really think they are beautiful. I have mirrors around and they love looking at themselves but what they see when they look is pure "beauty". They come running to me just like the chickens do when I go outside. They will take turns jumping up for bread just like my chickens. Not all of them will jump but then not all of my chickens will do it either. The others stand back and wait for me to toss them something. When they come running they don't waddle as much as chickens but kind of glide along with their wings held up like a lady in a long dress. Those fluffy bottom feathers swing back and forth every so slightly and it just cracks me up. Graceful pretty much describes the way they move.

In the afternoon when I let them back into the coop they come in and fill up on feed. Then they play in there and get up into the nest boxes. You can always tell when the guineas have been in the nests because they kick out some of the hay and make a mess. My husband's closet was messed up the other day and I told him I thought the guineas had been in there.

Hi from Miracle,

I'm 15 weeks old today and guess what they let me do!!! I'm sleeping on the roost like the big birds do tonight! It is so exciting. I'm snuggled up beside Warlock and Little Bit and Rascal are on the other side of him. He is nice and warm. He is not very nice to me in the day time but tonight he is a good sleeping buddy. Mena told me she would come and get me off the roost early in the morning before daylight so I can be in my cage when the big birds wake up. It makes me feel all grown up to be way up high like this. I hope she will let me do this again tomorrow night.

Bye for now!!!
