i got used to it years ago ..did broilers for a spell ... used to fill the brooder with hundreds of chicks... often i'd fill the water and when placing it back down ...i'd make sure none of the little ones got trapped underneath ... but sure as ... they zippy little tyrants ... and on more than one occasion when i lifted the water to refill it ..would find one pancaked ... my cat learnt early that when he saw me walking to the brooder ... there was a meal ! Broilers are such genetically weak birds as is... and pulling out dead little bodies on a daily basis was part of the job ... you tend to build up a bit of a tolerance but gave it up because i didn't have the heart for it any longer ! I tend to stick to layers now ... they less suicidal .. but when dealing with chicks /chickens... there are always gonna be casualties ...trick is to try and reduce incidences .. not much you can do about it at the end of the day ...just keep plodding along !
