Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise

Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise?

I would like to try the Duke's mayo everyone was raving about. Is it different than Hellman's?

Hellman's to me, tasted like butter and vinegar. Is my taste buds out of wrack?

I think it's a southern "thang". It's all anyone used back home in NC.
Here in AR, I once worked as a house manager at a group home for disabled adults. One of my responsibilities was to make the weekly shopping list. I would write "mayo" on the list and get MW every time. I finally figured out that I had to write MAYO on the list in big letters, underlined and in paranthesis I had to put (NOT Miracle Whip!).

I only buy and use best foods mayo.

Is Duke's the miracle whip/sweet version, if Hellman's is the mayo version?

Dukes is a mayo. Take a look at labels. As I said, the only reason I pay the higher price for the Hellman's is because it's guaranteed to be gluten free. I read the label on the store brand (walmart, the only grocery store within an hours drive around here). There are things in there that don't belong in mayo.

One of the mayo recipes I use is:

3 yolks
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp dried mustard
1 1/4 cup oil
salt & pepper to taste

And...
Depending on what it's for, chopped garlic, chives, basil, peppers, cayenne, parsley, dill, fennel, horseradish, tarragon, rosemary, or thyme...ooh so delicious!

Can let it sit on the counter for a few hours to let the acid in it do it's thing, then keep refrigerated.

Mom loved MW, so I grew up with that.
Never tasted mayo till I was an adult. Was hooked after 1 bite, nothing but Best Foods.
Rarely eat either now. Occasionally buy a jar, use it once, then months later toss it.

What is a good rule of thumb when storing opened jars of mayo/MW? Three months? sometimes I've had it for six months and wondered if they ever go bad on me.
