Sorry to hear about the issues you are having.

We did it!!

City of Glendale council has instructed staff to create an ordinance to allow backyard chicken keeping.

In our excitement and being on cloud 9 we should mention that the ordinance still has to be written, there is still a process that the city is required to go through to change the ordinance and the city will determine certain restrictions that will apply, such as number of hens allowed, noise, nuisance etc...

This also does not change any HOA restrictions that may be in place regarding backyard chickens.

HOWEVER it is a huge step in making backyard chickens legal in the city of Glendale, and have no doubt they will be legal.

Just don't count all your chickens before they hatch, but feel free to do the chicken dance!

The city of Glendale, AZ Planning and Zoning are reviewing the zoning and will possibly be making amendments to the code for backyard chickens in all single-family residential housing in Glendale, AZ.
We need support, we need Glendale residents to sign petitions and volunteer to collect signatures from their neighbors. The neighbors don't have to want chickens, just sign that they are okay if their neighbors have chickens.
There is a facebook page Glendale Backyard Farmers Movement, see link below, all information about upcoming meetings will be posted there. If you reside in Glendale, please ask to join to stay updated. If you already reside in a city that allows chickens your input is valuable too. The city of Glendale needs to know if you've had any issues with neighbor complaints or your experience of having a neighbor with chickens.
There are a lot of naysayers and fear mongers who don't understand backyard chickens, who are voicing their opinion for not supporting this.

On February 7, 2017 City of Glendale Council decided not to move forwarded with the chicken ordinance.

Backyard Chickens are still illegal unless you are zoned for it in the City of Glendale, AZ....

There is still an underground movement going though. If you want to stay up on it, please ask to join our group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/336573933344032/

We are trying to determine what our next step will be in this process.

Sorry to hear backyard chickens are still not ok. Have you posted on your state thread about this? There may be some local supporters here on BYC. You can find your state thread using the link in my signature (at the bottom of this post).

Hello, I am a new member, although it seems I won't be for very long. Based on articles I read in the Arizona Republic and sites such as this I thought the city of Glendale Arizona had begun allowing people to keep backyard chickens. I have had my 10 girls for over two years now and have become very attached to them ( and to the eggs) Yesterday I received a compliance order stating that I would have to get rid of them. I do not live in an HOA. I quoted the ordinance your site listed, which is the same as the newspaper stated, the compliance officer did some research and told me my suburban residence was zoned R16. She stated that only properties zoned as agricultural were permitted to keep poultry , such as "horse properties". Being as my backyard is about 2 and a half times the size of other properties in the neighborhood of single family residences I thought it was permitted even though this is not a "horse property". I am sick at heart about about this, and until the law is changed ( as, reading the newspaper article, I thought it had been) I thought you should let people know that keeping chickens is NOT permitted here. And yes, they are behind a fence and have a coop.
We did it, its legal now, we won https://library.municode.com/az/gle...deId=PTIICOOR_CH25NU_ARTIISPACOMCO_S25-27KEFO

Find the local library and go there and look up the regulations yourself. Call any lawyer's office and they can tell you where the law library is. I have found that what an official tells me what the law is and what the law actually is are often not the same thing. I have also found that the reference librarians are very helpful.

As someone who has lived in the country all of my life and, we always raised whatever animals we wanted to raise, I just can’t phantom ANYONE, telling me what I can or can’t have on my property.
