About a month ago I was sent pure Pekin Duck eggs. The eggs varied in sizes but as a first time hatcher I assumed this was normal. I even inquired the breeder about the giant egg, and he said it was just a large egg. This was probably a good time to tell me that he had sent mixed eggs and had no clue what it could be.

Since I was expecting Pekins I didn't suspect anything unusual when 6 yellow ducklings emerged from their shells. Then the last hatched, it was black and yellow! An obvious mix. I didn't mind at all, I was actually really happy about my surprise egg. There were two this color but one died the day after pipping. Well, the surprises didn't end here. After the ducks were completely dry I noticed a puff on ones head. A crested Pekin!! I was so excited!!

I emailed the breeder to tell about my exciting hatch and to ask about the surprise eggs. I asked what the mix could be, and if the Pekin was actually crested. He informed me that he "sent whatever he had" and that my ducks could be White & Fawn Runner-Pekin mixes. He then asked how many stand upright like a Runner.

A few minutes ago it dawned on me that not just the dark one could be a mix, but all of them? I really didn't mind ONE mixed breed but all 8? That's totally misleading. My ducklings vary in yellows, and some even have light brown faces. After looking at Runner ducklings I can totally see how some can be mixed.

How long until I can tell what is what? Can you help me identify the breeds? I have TONS of pictures that I will add tomorrow but until then I will add a few that I have on here already.

I don't have the foggiest idea about ducks, but maybe if you moved your post to "What breed or gender is this", then maybe someone would be more inclined to answer you.

I'm not sure cause I can't tell with ducklings until they are older. I'd say the top is probably a runner or runner cross. The middle is for sure crested. As for if it is a pure crested Pekin I don't know. Bottom one I have no clue.

ETA: I hate being lied to as well. I once bought pretty blue chicken eggs that were sold as purebreds but they hatched out mutts with feathered feet

I don't have a clue, but they sure are adorable. One of my 5 good Pekin eggs pipped today and is peeping away in the incubator. I'm so psyched. They are eggs from my Pekin pair and I feel like a grandma!! One of the eggs was even refrigerated....I'm hoping they all hatch well...

Let me know if you want anymore Pekin eggs...my girl is laying one a day.

Gosh, I hope that wasn't somebody on this board that lied to you. The ducklings are adorable, but what if you had needed purebreds? I hope that they were at least cheap!

BTW they really are adorable.

Thank you so much everyone! I love them no matter what, but Im just kind of upset that I was lied to. The breeder and I did a Graphic Design trade for eggs, I spent hours on his Farm Logo design and making sure he was 100% satisfied! Then this?

Runner ducks wasn't a duck that I wanted....and especially not a Runner-Pekin mix. Its confusing because not even the dark Runner mix stands upright like Runners? So I cant tell what any of them are! I'm totally happy with my dark Runner-Pekin, and Crested Pekin but I hope the others are just Pekin! At least 1 out of 8 has to be full Pekin right?! lol (with my luck, no)
