Misshapen bumpy duck egg

One of my ducks laid this misshapen egg this morning, with bumps on it. Their laying was a bit off last week, laying later in the day or not laying, after the heat-wave in the UK. One day I found a soft-shelled egg on the lawn, so I started adding poultry spice supplement to their layers pellets. They free-range all day but always have access to food and oyster shells, although they had run out of oyster shells for a while last week. Is this calcium-deficiency and just taking a while to get back to normal? Or could it be something else?

I see these at times my Buffs mainly they are 6 years old not sure if that matters but since you didn't mention the age of your ducks thought I'd add that.

I think age, where they are in their laying cycle, can play a part in this too plus the heat my girls have slowed down in laying and we have had some hot temps.

Thanks, they are 16 months old, have been laying pretty much non stop since September. We did get some soft shells in winter that resolved with poultry spice. I’m wondering if they might be coming up to a moult soon too.

That's a possibly and with them laying non stop too. My Runners did this when they started laying and laid about 18 months non stop. It can take it's toll on their bodies so hopefully you'll see them begin to molt and give laying a rest for a few months. I've never heard of poultry spice what all does it have in it?

I have a 8.5 year old duck who has been giving me eggs that look like that her entire life. Despite that she is the healthiest of all my ducks! I do watch her carefully, because I'm worried the eggs will get stuck inside her - being oddly shaped. But she's never had any issues with that, so maybe my concern is unwarranted. She has had some very thin shelled eggs, and her vet had us give her a calcium supplement.

My 6 year old Rouen Ducks also lay eggs that look similar and I blame it on their age. I still eat them as they are just fine, just sort of weird looking. I am just thankful to still be getting eggs at all from them at this age.

One of my Roens (3 years old) regularly lays eggs like this. I've heard it's excess calcium buildup. However she's always been very healthy and I've never noticed her having trouble laying in fact she has been one of my most consistent layers. I haven't worried too much about it since I have another who lays thin shelled eggs suggesting she doesn't get ENOUGh calcium which is a bigger concern in my book due to the possibility of getting egg bound or it breaking internally.
