Multiple piles of feathers is more in line with how K9s kill. They catch the chicken and then as they are fleeing with it they stop from time to time to shake it and kill it a little bit more. Bobcats are a more focused killer.

@Raun&alo, please post a picture of where the rooster was kept. It is likely the type of predator involved is not as important as your containment.

Consider overlaying the chicken wire with 2" x 4" or better yet 1" x 2" welded wire. I use chicken wire a lot but not where it is the primary defense against ground predators.

I second that, I use 2x4 as my main wire on sides and top of run, then chicken wire on the bottom 2 feet around the runs (makes it harder for the coons to pull a chicken through, or any other predator)
