still no sign of her,I guess she is in chicken heaven now...thinking about a way to somehow catch the dog and bring him to the animal shelter, the neighbors on either side of me agree something has to be done..the dog is never at home and he goes potty in everyone's yard and he is a big dog he look like a mix of black lab and Bernese mountain dog. If i can get him with the help of my neighbors we will call animal control to come get him..end of story

Gosh I am so very sorry for this. Let's just hope that she is in hiding somwhere and is ok. I used to have a dachsund that had attached the chickens on the outside of the run (chickens are inside the run dog on the outside). Saw all kinds of feathers in the run and everyone accounted for, but one was definitley ruffled up. Unfortunatly at the time we didn't know what had happened and never thought of our little 8 lb dog was doing this until she got into the run xmas or 08 and killed one and ruffed a few more up. I would have killed her on the spot and my husband almost did, but son was there and crying over the chicken and the dog. I will never have another dog like that, ever again. Oh she now has a wonderful home (although she had a wonderful home)

I hope she turns up, but I agree with SSS.....

I totally understand what you are going through ! I had a buff go missing 4 days ago while free-ranging. Not a shred of evidence so we assumed it was a raccoon. Well yesterday a punk ass neighborhood dog who roams all over busted through the glass on the coop and massacred all 9 of our sweet hens. My children are devastated. None of the neighbors will own up and say it is their dog. Even though the trail of feathers goes right into their yard ! It is so frustrating ! He got a taste for blood and came back to finish the job. Expect that dog to be back ! please try to catch it because it will come back ! I never though a dog could bust through glass like that...tears

well the dog is now gone..we talked to the owners yesterday morning after another chicken went missing and one of my neighbors little dogs got attacked by him..we asked that he be tied up and kept at home and he did not act very nice to us..so we called animal control and they stopped by the guys house..so rather then have her take the dog and try to find a new home for it they put the dog down yesterday...nice people

if it happens again with another dog you can always try to send a bill for the chickens, the loss of future eggs and if they were rare breed birds used for breeding you can get more $$ for loss of a rare breed's lost offspring! you can also get them for the cost of food! animal control should always be called in when a dog attacks your birds! that way it is documented for the future that it will happen with the dog and the owners who do not take responsibility for their animal being on the loose!

Have you checked with the dog owners? have a friend whose dog brought home a chicken, it could be there. Are you sure it was the dog? Did you call to report it? Did you talk to the neighbors who own the dog? If your other neighbors have had problems with the dog perhaps you should go as a group and talk to the owners of the dog. There is power in numbers. Take the sheriff with you if need be.

I am sorry for your loss
