Missing eggs

What could take eggs from under a broody hen, leave no shell but theres small bits of yolk in nesting box? It would have to be game as my broody buff Orpington is a very no nonsense lady when broody

Gosh that is strange.
My broody little bantam had a fertilised egg disappear with no trace, not even egg yolk- must have been a wandering rat and a brave one at that, though we were never sure...

She could have broke the egg by accident then gobbled it up, leaving behind just a bit of yolk.

Yep, true, but she probably wouldn't have eaten the shell.
I've had egg eating but never by a broody and just the insides of the egg.

It's probably a one-off, thing it's happened to me before. If it weren't for the yolk I would say she rolled it out because she deemed it infertile.
