Ok, I had left marked eggs out in the field where my hens like to lay so they continue to lay at these certain spots. Everyday i collect the new eggs and leave the old ones when the sun goes down. Now i heard some scratching this night, something very weird. I woke up this morning and had lost 20 marked eggs from 4 different nests. Now what kind of predator would be able to do this without leaving any shell.

Black snakes will eat eggs, but can't imagine one would eat that many. Could it be raccoons?

im not even sure what happened out there lol... i mean 4 different spots and all that same night all the eggs at those nests have been snatched... so i mean could a predators take 20 eggs... or maybe someone stole them

mabe some one stole them. my hens eggs went missing a few times on me & i later found out she was pushing them out of the nest & the other chickens would eat them. ive heard that rats & weasels can sometimes go into the nests & take the eggs & not leave a trace. keep an eye out.

A friend of mine had a hen sitting 18 eggs. He checked on her before going to bed one night, and then got up the next morning to discover all the eggs AND the hen were gone, so he's pretty sure it was a two-legged "predator" that took them.

Someone asked me recently why I padlocked my coops each night... this is the biggest reason...plus coons haven't discovered the knack of picking a lock yet!

last night we just had a 5ft black snake eat 7 of our hatching eggs. he was hiding in our roosting area so we didnt see him until now. we had been down on egg population for awhile we think he could've been hiding there the whole time. hope this helped! ;-)

I tore the old nests out of my coop this week and drug the whole shebang over by the burn pile.
I remembered yesterday the pretendie eggs were still in there so went to get them. Two have disappeared. :) I'm hoping the raiders with think over their tasteless meal and figure my girls aren't worth the effort.

it is probably snakes eating pretend eggs. I've lost eggs and 5 golf balls in the last 2 weeks. Hope the snake has a big case of indigestion. Going out in little bit with a flash light and look for the culprete.
