I have a couple black Plymouths that are losing feathers. But everything I read said when molting it starts at the neck on down.
But they are losing their tail feathers and then more around the back area and not so much the neck area. My Road Island and Comets are not losing feathers. They are all 16 mths. old. Is this part of molting or should I be concerned? I had to put them all on antibiotics 2 weeks ago for a week for respiratory inf. and now this last week gave them vitamins and electrolytes. Any help on questions would be a great help.

All I have to do is touch her and feathers fly out all over. So don't think it is from other girls. I am going to check in a.m. for mites and lice. And the feathers are all over the place so no one is eating them.

That sounds like molting. It should start at the head and neck, but perhaps it wasn't as obvious there, or there is something else going on as well. Good luck with her, anyway!

thanks. Am going to do some serious checking in the morning for mites etc and treat if needed. It is just strange to me that it is the same two girls that were sick two weeks ago. Which is why we put them on antibiotics and now they all seem so good ( other than the feathers), Am going to keep them all on the vitamin and electrolytes for at least another week cuz if it is molting then the stress will not be good.
