It is very hot where I am (90s-100F) and it’s the middle of June! Yet some of my chickens seem to be molting. Some seem to be missing some feathers and I see a lot of down feathers in the run. My pullets are not molting only my older birds. I did find lice on my chickens however I treated them on Monday. We cleaned the entire coop ,except for the run, and covered the chickens in lice powder. Could the molting be from the stress of being powdered? Or are they just doing a weird molt because it’s so hot?All help is appreciated. Thank you.

Once I had a hen that didn't molt the first time around, but waited two years. It was in June that she finally had her first molt.

Some chickens are very sensitive to the days growing shorter, which happens after summer solstice which we just had. Similarly, some hens will start to lay eggs again not long after winter solstice. And some hens, like the one above, have their own schedule which only they know what it is. In other words, chickens can molt any old time they please.
