Missing feathers?

how does permethrin compare to Diatomaceous Earth? the reason I ask I just looked it up and read about it, and it said it's toxic to honeybees, I have 4 hives about 30 yards from our coop. any other suggestions?
We use diatomaceous earth (DE) in our coops as a preventative, but once birds are infested, they'd need the Permethrin.

Since we aren't sure they even have mites at this point, you could use the DE but it kills too slow.

The Permethrin at least on the chickens and in the coop should be safe from the bees, not?

I would think so too. I'm going to go that route and use DE as a preventative.

Ok guys and gals, we are newbie chicken owners. We have noticed a few of our hens (kids) are missing tail feathers and some are a little bloody. We he lane defeated them and spayed medication and they look to be healing fine. Our question is, more of our hens are losing feathers in the same area. Is this molting? Or boredom? Or defiencies? What should we do?
Looks like feather picking. Chickens are attracted to the blood and will continue this bad habit.

Clean up the blood and apply some NuStock cream to the broken skin.

Observe the flock and see which ones are doing the picking. Try Pinless Peepers on the offenders.
