Missing Silkie Chick

In my coop I have a dog kennel that I keep my new chicks in as a brooder until they are ready to be introduced to the flock. In it I had 8 chicks. All fairly good size except for my tiny white silkie Snowball. The kennel is wrapped so nothing could get in and the coop is inforced so raccoons and such cannot get in. One morning I came out to check on them and snowball was gone. There were a few of her feathers left. Any idea what could have gotten into the tiny crack and gotten her, but left the rest?

I am sorry for your loss. Rats can definitely squeeze in small areas, and they love chicks as well as eggs. If they have a den nearby, they may take it back to the nest and 'share'. Snakes are also amazing at squeezing into inconceivably small cracks--- and swallowing up babies leaving little trace.

Thank you. She was my favorite out of the little ones. Okay, those are the two culprits I had thought of so thank you for the reassurance. I wil keep my eye out.
