so im not sure if one of my boy's was taken by the owl in the photo below or if he just got scared and flew off, got lost/ dosnt want to come back. from what i have found on a quick google search only Horned owls will snatch a duck, but in the video this guy appeared to be going after my boys. so basically does anyone know would this guy eat my boy. And how long should i wait before i start looking to get my other boy another friend? (Im in NH)

The owl in your pic is not a great horned owl, it looks more like a screech owl and is smaller than a GHO. Ducks can see in the dark, but if in hiding they will be quiet and they can fit into a fairly small hole or area. Hopefully, he will show back up for ya, but if there isn't any sign of feathers or anything, I would think it would be a land based predator...a fox, coyote, or bobcat/lynx will carry the animal off, hide and then eat, so widen the search...and look for footprints.

there are no track in the sand or the mud from drawdown no piles/ or excess of feathers. and i havnt seen him with any of the other duck on the lake. so i have no idea. guess ill wait a few more days then see if i can find a buddy for my boy.

Owl then took it...Cover your run or lock them in at night...also looks like a Barred Owl?

unfortunately i cant get them (well one now) into the house at night ever since i got them in one night and locked them in. he wont go anywhere near the house now. and i cant heard them in cause the lake is to low to walk around or use the canoe.

Can you put up a temp fence to entice them in with treats and feed? Then catch them?...You might need extra people to help?

the pond is all muck that i cant walk through, but he can (guess im to fat :lau). as for treats he doesnt like meal worms, peas, grapes, worms, he will only come up to the food if im 10' or more feet away from it (my net is only 6' long) and as soon as you get to close he flies away. he is just so skiddish since his brother has been missing.
