Missourians, Storm Reports?

I've been through plenty of ice storms in Georgia, believe me. Rather have 100" of snow than a couple of inches of ice, I think. It's scarier when you have a bator going plus chicks in a brooder and a separate nursery coop and all MUST have power at the same time. The adult birds will do fine, just have to de-ice their water, but the babies must be warm enough. That's the main downside to hatching in the winter.

I'm with you there.....I'll take snow anytime over ice. At 4 this morning our electric went out because of the ice. It was only out 3 hours, but I brought the newly hatched and week old babies up from the basement and set them by our wood stove. I hooked the incubator up to the 12v and it started fine and I watched for a little while since I had never used it. Went back later and it had stopped. The temp got down to 79 before the juice came back on. They're on day 18......are they toast, or do they have a chance of hatching?

Sure they have a chance. Aran's lightbulb in his homemade hatcher went out and his eggs were cool to the touch when he discovered it, same stage of incubation, and he was incubating my eggs I sent him. They hatched late, but they did hatch! So, be prepared for them to be delayed somewhat.

That's encouraging. I kick myself because I didn't go back down and check them sooner....I'd have brought them up and put them by the stove too. These are the eggs that were lost in the mail for 8 days and there's I think 11 or 12 out of the 18 that were looking good when I took them out of the turner last night....maybe I'm not supposed to get any chicks out of them

Katy, Good luck with your eggs and keep us posted. I bet you will have new babies soon.

Ozark hen, your grandson will be in my thoughts for a safe journey home.
Your CD run probable looks artistic. I have Hawks in my area, so I may have to give it a try. You should see how we had to rig the chicken wire over the top of the run. It ain't pretty!

Speckledhen, please let us know if you find out about the eggs you mailed. I pray they make it there safe.

I hate these ice storms. I'm with Speckledhen......much rather deal with the snow than ice.

Sure do hope Bobbie gets the eggs, but more importantly, that her family is okay. I also sent eggs to Colorado, but you expect cold and snow there. Ice is another matter altogether. I lived in Utah, Colorado and Ohio and the worst weather was definitely Ohio. Ice, snow, 25 below zero temps all at the same time. Ick.

I know. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone dealing with these storms. We had to deal with the ice last yr with power outages for weeks. It just makes me so sad to see all the damage to the mature trees and people's property.

Whew! 25 degrees below 0 would be aweful. Ick is right! I grew up in Fla, but we had to dodge hurricanes. I lived in Hawaii for a few yrs, but that's paradise. I was in St. louis, Mo for about 10 yrs with our share of ice & floods and now I've been in Il. for about 5 yrs.

I'll see what the 10 pm news says.
