Hello everyone, just a quick question here. Do they have a gamey taste to them like wild turkeys do? Never eaten them before and was just wondering.

Thank You.........Mona

MMmm. They have fat roasty goodness taste to them. LOL It is dark meat not white like a turkey. You could almost say turkey has little flavor by comparison. They do not taste like wild turkey or turkey of any sort. It is a rich meat.

Thank you for the reply MissPrissy , I always wanted to try duck but have to admit was a little scared to try it . I have eaten pheasent but didn't like it when I was young and just thought all game birds would be the same.

I have never tasted duck, but you guys are making me want to try it. How long does it take to raise a duck to finished? What breeds are good? Oh, no here goes the temptation again ... this addiction is so strong

I am raising silver appleyards. The males get up to about 9 lbs. If you can survive the mess of needing a pool for them to splash in and all the poop they create they are worth the effort.

Sssssshhhhhsss........if my DH reads this he'll want the ducks before I can get the chicks!!!

I really didn't want him to dig a pond because I was worried about cotten mouth snakes around here. Guess if I give in maybe he will think about the goats I want.

By the way, I'd love to see a picture of the roasted bird if you got it Grey.

Dig the pond. You REALLY want him to dig the pond. Once he digs the pond you won't have to worry about watering everything all the time. You can have ducks and geese and swans.

If my husband said he wanted to dig me a pond I would be pushing him out the door toward the tractor and handing him his boots with a giant smack on the lips and a nice pat on the rump!

I want a pond so badly!

Okay, now you made me feel bad about making him wait....lol.
Lordy don't start talking about geese and swan he'll have a fit and a long list for me to fill!

I guess I better plan on pricing a incubator soon.
