Wild birds use their muscles constantly and thus the meat tends to be stringier; and then their diet of wild greens can add a 'gamieness' to them.

Farmed waterfowl are more docile and put on fat when well fed. They generally are more tender.

But, duck and goose is not chicken. It is a dark dark, rich and filling meat. Either you love it, grow to love it, or can't get over the first bite. I love duck now!

I have to admit you and MissPrissy have got me" falling off the fence" so to speak about trying duck now. (been sitting on it so long it was habit) My DH is gonna love you guys for this because I'm gonna ask to ex-span the coop plans so he can have his ducks.

All I need to do now is get that coop done, read up somemore on duck care , and find out what is best to feed them. My work is cut out for me for the next few weeks...LOL

Gamebird feed for a few weeks then switch over to Purina Flock Raiser. Lots of water.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezey.

I use Flock Raiser, too. Not that I particularly like it, but I do get it delivered free to the farm once per month. I use brewer's yeast while they are young too just to make sure.

Waterfowl are 1000% easier to raise than chickens.

I appreciate you taking time to give me good sound advice. I will heed every word to be sure.

Also a little update for you guys. I went to the local store today for dog wormer (it's that time again) and guess what my youngest DD came to me with.......5 BKSL and 5 EE's !!!

I don't even have the coop finished !! Well, I helped her pay for them and was getting ready to leave and she spots baby ducks. They were little Mallard babies but I didn't get them. I'm gonna wait and let my DH pick out what he wants instead....lol.
It was tough to drag her away but she agreed her dad should pick them out himself.

I posted pictures of them in another forum.

Thanks Again, Mona

I agree but they are 1000% messier than chickens. I LOVE my ducks (4 Khaki Cambells, 1 Crested Pekin, 1 Fawn and White Crested Runner, all female except one KC drake) BUT they drive me nuts with their housekeeping habits. Their run is one huge 8X8' mud palace and nothing I do will dry it out, save for not putting them in it for a few days and putting them somewhere else.
I have been eyeing my big pekin girl and drooling lately, Stella, what a character she is, everytime I leave the house she quacks soooo loud for me to come over and everytime I look at her I see her roasted on my table

If she only knew... She's a big girl too. The kids would kill me...
If I can figure out a better way of keeping them I will get some meat ducks with my next order of meat chicks... That's a BIG if though.
