Hello, so I bought 4 turkey chicks at tractor supply. Well turns out one is a chicken meat bird. I have never had a meat bird. This one out of my whole flock is my favorite. Do baby turkeys and baby meat birds look so alike they could mistakenly be mixed together. This hen got so big so fast I assumed it was a gobbler. Someone pointed it out to me that it was a meat bird. Yes I know blonde moment…but I did buy 4 turkeys. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ Anything I should know about meat birds??

Unfortunately I hear about that type of thing happening all the time at Tractor supply. I sort of understand mixing up a cornish x with a white leghorn, but mixing up a chick with a poult would have to have been done by someone who was very uneducated about the birds they were handling. Unfortunately Cornish cross generally do not live very long as they are bred to be butchered in a matter of weeks. I would say there is high potential that you will soon be doing one of three things
1. learning how to process a chicken
2. looking for a butcher
0r 3. trying to give it away to someone who wants the meat.
