Hi Everyone,

My wife works at the zoo and was shadowing in the bird department today. She said the keepers mist the birds daily to improve plumage. The birds that like misting have much better coloration and feather health.

Does anyone here mist their quail?

If they are afraid of the spray bottle, did you leave the bottle in the pen a few days so they could get use to seeing it?

Or maybe give them treats after the misting?

I have heard of misting the quail to make them stinkier for dog training... Along the same lines as feather health it encourages them to groom and spread the oil on their feathers... Although, I thought the dogs picked up breath and foot scent, so I am not sure how this would relate...

We use a mister connected to the hose. Mine don't tend towards skittishness, so it didn't take much acclimating. I just move out the feed tray and put it back in afterwards.
