I'm considering insulating our coop and wonder how to control mites so they

1. don't infect our chickens and

2. don't infect the insulation in the coop walls---

Anyone have mite infestation in your coop insulation?

Or do mites ONLY affect the chickens themselves??

Thanks!

They will lay eggs in places like cracks in older wood on roosts or in walls. You will always have mite/lice exposure; the are carried/dropped by wild birds.

I have been able to manage them with poultry dust and, occasionally, Adams flea and tick spray, which kills them dead. Mine free range part of the time, are in the woods or weeds or wherever, and are certainly exposed to wild birds, who come into their fenced yard.
