I got a rooster from a friend and I have kept him in a old rabbit hutch because my bantam roosters do not like him.

Tonight my daughters noticed a ton of little crawlers on his legs. I got him out and they were all over me and my daughter as she helped me look over him. Agh...

They are black/brown and about the size of a needle tip. Thousands of them... I checked his bum and under his wings and he looks ok there- just all over his legs. There are a bit of red marks on his feet, but that could be caused from the wire cage.

He doesn't look "infected" - but they are everyplace. I moved him to another coop area in the garage.

How do I get rid of these? I have not noticed anything on my main flock, and I have 130 bird in that! yikes...

sounds like red mite in the coop got on him

dust him and the coop with DE

Diatomatious Earth

btw they don't bite humans but boy are they itchy if you get them on you and a bath dont help much unless you bath and shower for hours

wiping them off don't work as they are so small they get missed in between your finger print ridges

They are so annoying! agh.... I feel like my skin is crawling. I did take a bath and so far so good- but yes they are small and nasty. I had my daughter go right in and wash off (shower) and she seems to be ok- she was the one who was holding him- I just reached in the cage to take out a feed dish. I can not even imagine if my main flock has these- I have 130+ free rangers. How the hell am I going to kill these things? Should I burn the coop he was in? It is just an old ragged rabbit hutch.

Poultry dust will kill them. Dust him all over under his wings and vent. Take care around his head (eyes, nose, beak) Also dust the coop thoroughly. Don't rely solely on DE but it doesn't hurt.
