Hey Guys!
I’m new here and also it’s my first time with chicks 🐣!
So I have it on of probably dumb questions, but first I need some reassurance.
How often do chicks bring mites, lice, bed bugs etc into the house?
I have ours in a guest room where we also keep clothes in dressers and a closet so not much, but I didn’t think about it until after the fact and I swear I am SO itchy now. Haha! Please tell me if I need to put them elsewhere. They are there because we have dogs and children and it’s a place they are safe and I could close off vents to keep them warm (with lamp also)

Do they seem to want to dust bath? Ifyou had some diameteceous earth in your dust bath it would help. Give them a good inspection. It sounds like they like to hang around the vent or under the wings at night. I am only familiar with the white lices though...
Good luck!

They are brand new chicks so I am unsure abo the dust bath thing. They are in bedding

Have you looked at your chicks very closely to see if you see any bugs crawling on them?

People have brought lice in with hay or bedding before... So it is possible.

Permethrin, not DE, will rid lice and or mites.

Do you have a thermometer in the brooder with them?
Be careful to not overheat them.

I have looked at them, But not in depth. I will though. Would it be very noticeable? What do I look for? I just bought the packaged bedding. Ugh I am FREAKING

Calm down.

I highly doubt your new chicks have bugs crawling on them.
You'll be able to see the bugs if they do.

We have one that’s not working well so tomorrow I am going to get another. It shows 82-84 but I think it’s warmer so I have been turning the light off. We have the vents closed in that room and the A/C stays set to 72-73 now also. Do you think I should leave it off until tomorrow? I thought they were chirping a lot when they were cold and I have a baby monitor in there to watch how they act, but I think they just cheep a lot in general.

I looked on the yellow and reds and saw some little dirt or debris in their fuzz, but it didn’t move. Nothing that I could see was moving, but it wasn’t super easy to do. I am keeping the bag of bedding in a Rubbermaid outside but it sat open for about an hour in the screened in porch yesterday. If I am super worried about bugs should I toss that bag? Also, while I’m here haha! Have you had chicks fall asleep in their water. I was up ALL night with them until I finally took the water thing out and left only what they would need for the rest of the night (too shallow to put face in) and slept for an hour. Today I tried to find another watch solution and I finally found the round Galvanized feeder and put a glass mansion jar on top to keep them out of that hole- but I can’t fill like a normal water thing. I refilled it once today so far and it wasn’t even gone- the water situation with them sleeping in it worries me though.
