I know how to deal with mites, I dust my chickens and coops and check my whole flock weekly. My SLW has mites but these appear red in color and are a bit smaller and quicker than the mites I have dealt with before. My SLW is segregated, dusted, and in a clean area. She is sleepy and lethargic. I have electrolytes and will feed her some scrambled eggs, I just don't know how to handle this. Her infestation is mild compared to what I've seen before, by her body language I think I will loose her. If any one knows anything I can do to get her healthy please let me know. I seen an excellent idea the other day: pour a pile of dusting powder in a pile put on a mask and use a leaf blower to get in all the cracks and crevices of the coops and since I just cleaned the coop yesterday I will be doing this the next time. If this matters I am in Wisconsin, use a heat lamp when it's very cold, use pine shavings or straw on top of their linoleum to keep down odor, they go outside almost daily since it has warmed up a bit. Does sevin work on all kinds of mites, I know it works like a dream on the usual mites I have had, you can see them die and fall off. Thank you if summer would hurry up I wouldn't have this issue, it seems to happen only in the winter.:he

Thanks I did check out different types of mites and it does appear to be a red mite. It's confusing because it says they usually feed on chickens at night and hide in cracks and crevices during the day but I seen some on her at noon. I will do the best I can trying to heal her, she is my only SLW and I don't want to loose her. :(
