Hi guys,
So I’ve been having a rough month. I have been treating my dog and cat for fleas...nothing has been working. Well today after picking up a chicken I put her down and noticed the same bugs on my hands. After a huge freak out and a long shower, I’ve come to realize that what is in my house must of came from my chickens. I constantly checked my chickens but seeing them on my hand and inside animals I don’t think there would of been any other way to seen them on my girls. My dog comes with me to take care of them so he must of brought them inside. I have been losing my mind trying to take care of the fleas but it all makes sense now.
So here I am in desperate help for answers how to get rid of these tiny bugs. And how to identify them... I have 5 acres, do I need to treat the whole area? Or just coop? Please help!!

Could you post pictures?
You can also do a search on the internet to see what you're dealing with .
Fleas & mites/lice do not look the same ... Are your cat & dog on flea prevention?
Mites/lice can be dealt with using Permethrin dust, there's also a concentrate form to spray. Mites are tiny & roundish usually found in the chickens vent & under the wing, bedding, nest boxes, cracks in the coop. At night if you run a white paper towel along to roost & it turn red/blood, it's mites. Lice are long/slender critters, usually found on the feather shafts of their feathers.

You could mix up the Permethrin concentrate in a hand sprayer, put on some safety clothing & mask, spray in the coop at night ... The chickens will be roosting so you can get their underside and all the roosts, crack & crannies. Nest box material should be burned & boxes sprayed/dried before replacing nesting material. You would need to repeat in 7 - 10 days as the egg will hatch.

You also could dust your chickens with Garden & Poultry Dust that contains permethrin, there's also some horse sprays that contain permethrin that you can spray the chickens. Permethrin is the ingredient that you need to take care of mites/lice....Check with your Vet as to what to use for the dogs & cat.
