As long as this is just a lack of protein in the diet, the addition of more protein like turkey or beef will pick up the egg laying. More protein means more eggs. It takes about 3 days for extra protein to make a difference. If you feed them meat 2 or 3 times a week, by the end of the first week you should see more eggs being laid. If the meat makes no difference, then something else is going on.

Keep us posted! I will be wondering how this all turned out.

Here are some more pics. Does it still seem to be molting? Or is it mites?

That is some very red skin. But I am not thinking mites, molting or feather plucking do to broodiness. This could be something completely different. The skin looks so irritated. Maybe they are allergic to something in the feed? The roost bar is very irritating??

The first pic you posted here didn't appear as bad as this last pic, unless this last one is just a bad pic. You might want to post this question with pics in the emergency section here on BYC for more ideas....

If you are looking to start a new thread...and I take it, this is on your mobile phone. I am not sure about mobiles, as I use a lap top here. But you need to locate the icon or button that says, "Start a New Thread", just as you did to start this entire thread. When you find this button, it will lead you to a page you can type and describe your problems. Here is the link to the emergency thread.Click here and find the Start A New Thread button and proceed...

Two of my chicken, a red star and a RIR have some identical bare patches on their necks for almost 2 months now. I am wondering if its molting or social feather picking? I have seen no evidence of lice or mites but still dusted them with DE twice to no effect. They are otherwise healthy and consistently laying eggs. Here is a picture of one, she wasn't very cooperative so this is the best I could get at the moment:

Also, often when they do have external parasites, they also have internal parasites. Internal worms will drain the life right out of chickens and will kill them eventually. And over load of worms will prevent them from laying. If you do suspect worms, you can offer up some Wazine in the water for one full day. 2 tablespoons of Wazine per gallon of water for 24 hours. Repeat in 10 to 12 days. You can get Wazine at most feed stores. :)
Hi, just wondering if Wazine is enough to treat worms or if you need to follow up with another medication? and also, is there a withdrawal period for eggs with Wazine?
