I saw some mites on my hen!! I dusted the chickens, coop, and dusting areas yesterday and saw an alive one on a hen today. How long until the mites start to die of? How do you dust a duck? How often am I suppose to dust them?

Oh! And what do I get to deworm them? How do I deworm them? I don't know if they have worms or not but I hear you are suppose to deworm them...How often do you have to deworm them?

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks

Some worm once a year whether there's evidence of worms or not, while others only worm if they see evidence - it's up to you. Wazine works on roundworms, and Safeguard works on several kinds of worms, including roundworm.
I like Ivermec for mites. You can also use Frontline, like what's used for cats. I don't use the dusts, so can't help you there. I have heard that you're supposed to redust in 10 days though, but that may just be for lice treatments???? You're sure you saw mites and not lice??? Mites are super tiny, hard to see...

okay...now i dont know if it was mites or lice! lol theyre seeable white with a bit of brown..yeah youre suppose to dust after ten days or what ever. and if they arent dead by tomorrow, should i just use the frontline for cats. i know where to get that :) do they sell stuff for worms at a feed store like d&b or something?

Maybe this site will help you identify your pest, or maybe it'll just confuse you more...lol: http://anrcatalog.ucdavis.edu/pdf/8162.pdf It sounds like you saw the bugs pretty easily, so I'm betting they're lice. Look around the vent area feather shafts and see if you see any egg/nit masses (whitish/greyish clumps). If you see a lot of dark, dirty looking debris around the feather shaft bases, then you've probably got mite issues.

Most places similar to Tractor Supply will carry Wazine and Safeguard wormers. I'm not sure what d&b is...
If your chicken is full size, you can put a cat dose of frontline or frontline plus (Adams Flea and tick spray works well too - but be sure to cover the face and make sure you spray down to the skin, not just on top of feathers) on her. I'd spread it around, shoulder area and a dab under each wing.

You know what..It might just be lice..I have 11 chicken and 2 ducks. Of course, that probably means they all need treatment. How much of the frontline stuff should I get?

Frontline isn't cheap. If you're going to treat them all "just in case" I'd opt for the Adams instead. I keep large dog Frontline here, so I can get many doses from one vial, but I think the Adams might be your best bet.

How much frontline for 1 bird? Where would I get the Adams Flea?

Yes, that's the stuff (be sure to cover the head/face). Best if you can get someone to help you. And as I said, you want it down to skin level, so part feathers and spray, or spray on your hands and rub on skin... I believe they also sell a dip that you can prepare in a bucket of water (or sink) and dip the entire body down in (not the head obviously).
In the case of the frontline, I believe .5 - .75 ml would be fine. But again, it would need to be on the skin, not feathers. So if you had a large dog pack, and a needless syringe, you could probably treat about 6 - 8 birds (can't remember how large the doses come in).

Thanks! You've been a ton of help! As for deworming what about this stuff - http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752059
