DH recently picked up 3 hens and a rooster from someone and didn't ask any questions :/ they had all 4 of them in a tiny tiny coop/run and the hens were already pretty tore up from not being able to get away from Henry (the roo). Betty (the dark brown hen) had a saddle on her back which is why I think she looks better than the twins. The twins look nearly mangy! Betty also started limping a few days ago but everything seems fine. They free range on our 3.5 acres so I think she stepped on something in the pasture. My question is do I have a case of mites or is Henry too big for them? He's quite large (a black austrolorp). And I can't figure out how to add pictures from my phone. GRRR!!

I always dust new chickens (except itty bitties) with Poultry Dust, then repeat in 7 days. I repeat in another 7 days after that too.

In my opinion don't wait to find out if it is mites or not...dust them.

If the roo overmates the hens then you can get him more hens (to get a 1:8 or 1:10 roo to hen ratio) or simply put him in a pen by himself or with another rooster for company. Or keep trying saddles.

I have 11 16 week old chickens also (5 roosters- which will be culled tomorrow and 6 hens). None of the other hens look like this. But he doesn't go near them. They split into two different flocks as soon as they come out of the coop.
