MITES!!!!! ugh...

we have a sudden infestation of mites - i've spread d.e. in the yard, but from what i've read that is not terribly effective. i don't want to use sevin if i don't have to, apparently it leaves residual in the eggs for up to 60 days and it is really nasty stuff. does the orange guard really work, and how? do you have to drench the whole environment? and then how do you get the mites off the birds? eech, they are so nasty... and there's so many of them... help?!

I just had to dust mu chickens, and i got the stuff from Tractor Supply and i cant remember the name but it was for Poultry, gardens, and dogs.
though it did say not to put in the nest box.
