I've read lots of information on treating mites but I still need help! A few of my chickens have mites. Everything I've read that works requires a vet. I have no vets close to me that deal with chickens and none that will come to my house either. The closest I've found so far is 2+ hours away, although I'm still searching. I can't transport all my chickens that far. I bought de. I've read good and bad but I'll try anything at this point.
I tried to order something online but they were out of stock. Is there anything I can do or buy from a pet store? Thanks!!!

You could spray them with permethrin, but make sure to DILUTE IT! If it is not diluted with water it can harm your chicken and even kill them. I know this stuff may sound scary, but it works really well, I use it on all of my chickens

Start out using permethrin. The key is to break the life cycle of the mites so you have to treat two or more times with 7 to 10 days between treatments. Make sure to treat their living areas too. It helps to use a different treatment for the next time too. Look into spinosad and if you have the cash, elektor. You do not need a vet to buy it and it has instructing for treating chickens since it is labeled for them.

Ok thanks for the suggestion. How diluted would you recommend? More water the better kind of deal? And do I have to rinse them after?

Where would I buy these as I can only find them to order online and amazon is apparently sold out. I'm in Ontario if that helps...

You can buy permethrin at most feed stores--I think in Canada too. If not, look for garden dust for plants that has permethrin in it. They used to be labeled as poultry\garden dust in the past. With the dust, you shake it onto the chickens making sure to hit the vent.

The container should tell you how much to dilut for the kind of animal you are using it with. Mine called for 3 gal water to 2 oz, but please read the directions it comes with

Ok all good suggestions. I'm in Ontario Canada. We don't sell most of this stuff over the counter. At least not at the many places ive checked. As for the permethrin, when I google it says commonly called nix. As in the lice nix that we humans would use on ourselves. Is that what you all are referring to?
