Usually it is more severe if fowl pox.

That does not look like fowl pox, but as one poster said, probably peck wounds or injuries from fencing.

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. When I get out of work tonight I'll try to wipe away the dark spots. Any recommendations for the best way to remove dry blood?

I usually just let it go away. It's probably a scab, and you don't want to pick it open...But then again I've only had pecking problems once or twice...I've mainly had frostbite problems.

Unless it gets worse, let it be. If the comb looks dry, you can massage olive oil into it. If it gets worse, consider using an antiseptic to prevent infection.
