I have tried a lot of different things. I use permethrin. It works. If you have a TSC they carry the permethrin dust, the premixed spray bottles and the concentrate. Good luck...

Welcome to BYC! If you live in the US, try permethrin dust or permethrin spray. In the winter I use the dust on the birds and the spray on the coop.

Also wear at least a N95 dust mask when you treat them! And retreat at ten to fourteen day intervals, at least twice.

When I had my infestation, I sprayed weekly for a month but I was also getting ready to move birds around so I sprayed all of the coops. I didn't want to introduce the pests from one coop to another coop or introduce the pests from the birds that may have been in the previously infested coops. I wanted to make sure both coops and birds were free of the pests. I don't check every bird but do check a few from each coop and if I don't see anything then I'm pretty sure there aren't any. I usually check after they go to roost and wear a headlamp so I have both of my hands free. All of the coops also have nightlights. I have a lot of birds.

My Bug Check notes:
Have you checked them over real well for mites and/or lice?

Google images of lice/mites and their eggs before the inspection so you'll know what you're looking for.

Part the feathers right down to the skin around vent, head/neck and under wings.

Best done well after dark with a strong flashlight/headlight, easier to 'catch' bird and also to check for the mites that live in structure and only come out at night to feed off roosting birds.

Wipe a white paper towel along the underside of roost to look for red smears(smashed well fed mites).
