I have a 2 week old baby Serama that I hatched out of an incubator. He is still in the house in a brooder, never been around any other chickens or outside. Can he have mites? How do they get mites if they aren’t outside or exposed to other chickens?

Well, if you introduce them to stone and such from outside, it could have red mites, same with dirt. But i doubt he would have mites.

Seems unlikely. Why do you think he has mites? If you have other chickens who have them, you can transport them on your person, too. They don't survive long on people, but they can live long enough to get to a new set of chickens.

You can see mites on chickens, they are microscopically small, but you can see them if you sit down and do an examination in a light or the sunlight. If you ever do run into them, you will see them on your chickens. If you see red clusters on the chicks face, that is mites, but they also hide under the feathers. But they like the face, if you find them there you will probably find them elsewhere on the body.

Some mites only come out at night to feed on the birds. I use a headlamp so I have both of my hands free to inspect the birds after they roost. I also take some paper towels and wipe on and under the roosts and look for streaks on the paper towel which is also a sign of mites. Good luck...
