Thank you both so much. I bought some dust yesterday and plan to clean the coop and chickens today. I have spray for the coop and was planning to dip the chickens that have obvious signs of mites. Does this sound like a plan? I feel so lost and am worried about doing it wrong

I think you're supposed to treat all of the chickens.

You will dust the chicks, very carefully, go by Dawg53 post. You can dust the adults as well. If you bathe/dip, keep away from head/face. I think you can put on top of the head, but unsure and it would need to be accomplished carefully to avoid eyes/ears etc.

Clean the coop. Spray the coop including the crevices, where joints/roost bars meet, corners. After dry, you can add new bedding.

You will need to do this again in I think 10 days, please check the timing. I think you stated you are leaving this Saturday, if so you won't be able to treat again, until you return.

Who is caring for your flocks while you are away? Have them check the Broodies/chicks, if they can, after 7-10 days.

Thank you! Yes I was planning on using powder on the hens I don't dip. I'm thinking I should only need to dip 2 or 3. My nephew is helping me today and is caring for my flock while I am gone. Thank you all for your help!

Thank you all again. I feel like a horrible chicken mom. My nephew and I cleaned the coop, run and chickens. I'm blessed to have a small run and large run so we locked them all in and cleaned the large run then cleaned the birds and put them out and then once we were finished we cleaned the small yard and coop. We also cleaned 2 small coops the hen and chicks and broody hen are in. Unfortunately my mite problem was much worse than I knew. Not only did I find little black mites like in the picture above, but I also found small red mites and larger yellow ones. Does this mean I have 3 different types?
I have had a major Eastern Starling issue since last fall and am not sure how to get them to stay away if I feed in the coop, then 100s of birds are in there making huge messes. If I feed outside then the mess is outside, but still there. My runs are huge. My smaller run I could probably put bird netting over, but it's 30x30. My larger area is probably 50x50. Any advice on how to keep this from happening again?

I would post pictures of the new mites. Maybe make a post on keeping the starlings away in the predator and pest forum.

I think permethrin works on most mites (not sure about depluming) and lice. Make sure to get all the crevices and joints (I know I said this before, excuse me).

Just a thought, if the starlings are going into the coop to eat the food, close the coop door and have the chicken enter through the pop door.

What types of feeders do you have? Possibly you could use something like this. This is not the buyer from which we purchased but did purchase ones like this. Easy to put together!

I have looked at these. Do they keep the birds out? My coop door is closed, but the birds fly in through the chicken door
