Mites?

A Question for the experts!

I noticed in the last couple of weeks my girls legs are looking pretty bad.Could this be mites? We have treated them & dusted them.But legs still look flaky.
Any suggestions?

I can't say from the pic, but if you're concerned about scaly leg mites, you would need to use something like vaseline or vicks vapo rub and coat all of the legs everday for a couple of weeks to smother the mites. I could be wrong, but the feet look fine to me, but I'm no expert.

Their feet look fine to me, but if you want to make sure, just cover their legs and feet in vaseline(suffocates the mite) and you can dust them in Sevin dust!

Those look like cold and wet chicken feet to me, not scaly leg mites. Normal chicken scales will get thicker as they get older. Have you kept chickens before? Scaly leg mites- will with time- lift the scales, the scales get thickened and crack- the legs will get thicker due to the skin and scales thickening. If they look really different from a few weeks ago, you just may be really perceptive- and are seeing early changes due to recent infestation with scaly leg mites..... then treating for them would be a good idea. Most people don't notice until it gets worse than that.

I don't know if you can tell very well by this picture, but this hen's right leg/foot (on the left in this picture) has a pretty decent case of scaly leg mites. I'm treating her legs with CamphoPheneque (sp?) as suggested by someone on another site. It seems to be working pretty well.

The foot/leg were swollen looking and the scales really lifted up. None of the other chickens seem to have the same problem, but I'm treating them too.
